Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain globally, making it part of the popular Seven Summits.

You will be amazed by the vibrant colors of the landscapes, the friendly people, and the general vibe that enlightens the whole experience.

The spectacular scenery surprises you day by the day, beginning with dense rainforest and continuing to most volcanic scenery.

While it is a feasible hike, you will challenge yourself in altitude, especially on the summit day.

Itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrival to Arusha

Landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha (1,5 hours by road). It is the beginning of a life-changing adventure!

Before dinner, we will do a briefing and equipment check in preparation for tomorrow’s extraordinary expedition.

DAY 2 - Arusha- Lemosho Gate (2100m) & Mti Mkuwa Camp (2850m)

Distance: 9km
Elevation gained: 750m.

After breakfast at the hotel, we head to Londorosi Gate for registration and continue driving to Lemosho Gate. We will have lunch and meet the rest of the team at the gate.

The hiking trail begins ascending through a montane forest. On the way, we will encounter black and white Colobus monkeys and other wild fauna.

DAY 3 - Mti Mkuwa Camp (2850m) & Shira II Camp (3850m)

Distance: 16km
Elevation gained: 1000m.

We start the journey climbing up the Shira ridge to reach the plateau. The trail will begin to take you out of the rainforest and into the savannah, and the landscape will drastically change to high grass, heather moorland, and volcanic terrain.

When reaching the Plateau, it is only a way down to camp I, and then we will continue to Camp II to stay overnight.

DAY 4 - Shira II Camp (3900m) & Barranco Camp II (3950m)

Distance: 8km
Elevation gained: 50m

Today we are not gaining any elevation remarkable that is ideal for an acclimatization day and adjusting the body to the altitude.

From Shira Plateau, we continue to the East ridge passing the junction towards Kibo peak. We slightly turn to the South passing by Lava Tower and afterward we will see Arrow Glacier. We follow the route down to our next camp.

DAY 5 - Barranco Camp (3950m) & Karanga Camp (4000m)

Distance: 5 km
Elevation gained: 50m

After breakfast, we leave the camp and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall which is an imposing 257m wall of volcanic rock that we will scramble up.

Passing underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we head toward the Karanga valley. From here we have a steep climb up from Karanga valley to our night’s camp at Karanga camp.

DAY 6 - Karanga Camp (4000m) & Barafu Camp (4673m)

Distance: 4km
Elevation gained: 673m.

We continue up to Barafu, the trail will take us across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation.

Upon arrival at the camp, we completed the South Circuit, which offers man¡gnific views of the summit. We will spend the afternoon resting, having an early dinner preparing for the summit day.

DAY 7 - Barafu Camp (4673m) & Uhuru Peak (5895m) & Mweka Camp (3060m)

Distance: 4.5km+11km
Elevation gained: +1222m, -2835m

Around midnight we start to get ready for our summit push. We start the ascent between Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. We take Northwest towards Stella Point in the crater rim. At this point, you will have the chance to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers could may view it from the summit, conquering the highest point of the Afrikan continent.

We start descending to Barafu where we will stop for lunch and recover after losing altitude, before continuing to Mweka camp. Enjoy your last day in the beautiful wild mountains of Afrika.

DAY 8 - Mweka Camp (3060m) & Mweka Gate (1640m) - Moshi

Distance: 10km
Elevation gained: -1420m.

After breakfast, we go downhill to Mweka Park to receive our well-deserved summit certificates, have lunch, and see goodbye to the awesome team.

From the gate, we will get transferred to our hotel in Moshi (30min drive) where we can shower and relax after a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
